Information Request: Missing Subscriber Social Security Numbers
Under the Affordable Care Act, the Internal Revenue Service now requires health insurers to request missing subscriber and dependent Social Security numbers from their members. In July, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield started sending Social Security number request letters to individuals who had health coverage at any time in 2015.
If they wish to do so, insured groups that have 50 or more employees enrolled can provide Excellus BCBS their employees’ (including spouses’ and dependents’) missing Social Security numbers by requesting an eFile from their dedicated account service consultant. Update the Social Security number in column AL of the eFile and return the eFile to Excellus BlueCross BlueShield.
