Eligibility Requirements for the Base Health Plan
The Base Health Plan, also referred to as the “Catastrophic” Health Plan, works a little differently than other health plans. It offers free coverage for preventive screenings to keep members healthy and a high deductible to help keep premium costs low. It also offers three free visits to a primary care physician that are not subject to the plan deductible.
To be eligible for the Base Health Plan subscribers must meet certain requirements:
- Age 30 and under OR
- Receive a "hardship exemption" from the New York State of Health (NYSOH). Consumers receive a hardship exemption if the Marketplace determines that they are unable to afford health coverage. If they qualify for a hardship exemption, they may enroll in the Base Health Plan (“Catastrophic” Health Plan) plan no matter how old they are or what their income is.
Base plans may be purchased through the New York State of Health. Check Blue on Demand for more specific plan and rate information.
