Update to Telemedicine Policy
We are pleased to announce an update to a medical policy that will provide additional access for our members. Our medical policy has been updated to reflect the changing technology and delivery of care. As of 1/1/16, physicians providing telephonic and video visits to our members will be reimbursed at existing benefit levels for services that would normally be covered under the member’s contract. The new and improved policy expands the types of delivery methods to include face to face, telephonic and video consultations. If a provider wants to conduct visits via phone or video, he or she can bill and be paid for that visit - just like it was delivered face to face. We expect this will help to reduce employee absences/time off of work and improve provider access. If you have any questions, please talk to your broker, consultant or account manager.
We are also pleased to announce that we have selected a Telemedicine vendor to further expand this access. Available to self-funded groups now for a small additional fee, we have engaged MDLive to provide employees with a 24/7 provider service.
