Medicare Members to Receive New ID Cards

CMS regulations require that we send new member ID cards when there’s a change to any of the benefits listed on the ID card. Due to a change in the ER copay, all impacted Medicare members will receive new ID cards.

Medicare members have started to receive ID cards and you and/or your clients may receive questions. This impacts both employer groups and direct pay members.

Important Notes:

  • Medicare members who no longer have coverage with us or changed plans for January 1, 2015, may still receive a new ID  card, which may confuse them.
  • Medicare members, who changed to a different Excellus BlueCross BlueShield plan, will also receive a new ID card.
  • To determine their correct ID card, members should compare the copay on the ID card to their 2015 Summary of Benefits.
  • This may not be the case with Medicare insurers, if benefits on the member’s ID card were not changed.

Please contact your account consultant with any questions.
