Did You Know...More Than $83 Million Can Be Saved When Nexium® Goes Generic?
More than $100 million is spent annually by our employer groups on the prescription Nexium to alleviate heartburn. The good news is that more than $83 million of that total could be saved once the new generic becomes widely available late this year or early next year. In addition, Excellus BCBS Pharmacy Management has identified a list of 20 drugs that will become generic by the end of this year that could save employers more than $200 million, based on an extrapolation of our drug utilization data.
The overall utilization of generics is already strong among our employer groups. The Excellus BCBS generic fill rate is 81.8%, which exceeds the national rate of 77%. The result? More savings for you and your employees.
