Is a Medicare Supplement Plan Right for Me?

Medicare Supplement plans work with Original Medicare to help pay your medical costs.

For example, Medicare Part A covers most hospital expenses, and Part B covers some medical expenses. But you're still left with out-of-pocket expenses to pay.

With a Medicare Supplement Plan from Excellus BlueCross BlueShieldUnivera Healthcare you have peace of mind knowing that most of the out-of-pocket expenses left by Original Medicare are taken care of. That's reliable coverage you can depend on. There are certain circumstances where a Medicare Supplement Plan might be the right type of plan for you:

Keep In Mind

Medicare Supplement plans do NOT include prescription drug coverage.

If you require prescription coverage, you will need to purchase a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (Part D) in addition to a Medicare Supplement plan.

If you are enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan and enroll in a Prescription Drug Plan (PDP), you will be automatically disenrolled from your Medicare Advantage Plan

Is a Medicare Advantage Plan a better fit for me?

Medicare Advantage plans combine Part A & Part B into a single plan.

Part A

Helps pay for hospital stays and inpatient care

Part B

Helps pay for doctors visits and outpatient care

Medicare Advantage plans generally include copays and/or coinsurance for benefits. They usually have prescription drugs, preventive dental services, and routine vision and hearing services that are not included in Medicare Supplement plans.
