Once you have secured an interview, make sure to conduct market research on the company. You should know who their competitors are, what is going on in the industry, and have an idea of their products and services. You should also think of a few questions to ask the interviewer.
Make sure to dress professionally, even if the dress code on a day-to-day basis is lax. Wear a suit (women may wear a pant or skirt suit), with polished shoes. Avoid excessive jewelry and/or cologne. Bring a briefcase, padfolio or small handbag with extra copies of your resume and a way to take notes during the interview.
Before the interview, perform a self-assessment to decide which skills and qualities you possess and wish to highlight. Think about what your career goals are, what position interests you and why. Also, think about the situations in which you have been successful or unsuccessful so that you can describe them to the interviewer.
On the interview day, make sure to sell yourself! You know your skills and accomplishments best. Reiterate the reasons that you would be best for the job. Get the interviewer’s name or business card to send a thank you note/email.
